Investment Advisor of the Month

Nov 20, 2013

When you say "socially responsible investment," does your financial advisor shrug? Imagine an advisor who researches alternative investments like community bonds and volunteers her own time to educate the public about them.

Meet Sucheta Rajagopal, LL.B., CIM, FCSI. Sucheta is a member-investor in SolarShare herself and is comfortable discussing the risks and benefits of Solar Bonds with her clients. “Solar Bonds offer an interest rate of 5%, based on 20 year contracts signed with the Government of Ontario. For some clients, this is an opportunity to invest wisely for themselves and invest in the future of the planet at the same time.”

Sucheta has been involved in Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) for over 10 years, advising retail and institutional clients on how to integrate environmental, social and governance concerns into their investment portfolios. As an investment advisor and portfolio manager at Jacob Securities Inc., she manages one of the largest exclusively SRI books of business in Canada. Offering a variety of educational activities such as lunch ‘n learns, she helps clients improve both their financial literacy and knowledge of SRI, encouraging them to champion SRI within their own circles.

Sucheta has an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and is qualified as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). She is also a Certified Investment Manager (CIM), and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI). She is a past President of the Board of the Social Investment Organization, and currently serves on the Board of Planet in Focus.

SolarShare is delighted to have her as a member of the co-op.
