Old Military Base Converted to SolarShare Project

Apr 03, 2014

A former military radar training facility from the 1940s is officially transformed into a solar power producer.

SolarShare is delighted to announce our 23rd project, Vanastra. It was named by our members after the community surrounding it.  Vanastra is located in the township of Tuckersmith, in the municipality of Huron East.

The project is 366 kW, enough clean energy capacity to power about 40 homes. The heavy concrete building itself is massive and robust, and will host our rooftop panels for many years to come. Today, the buildings are home to some commercial businesses, but are no longer used by the Canadian Forces. To read more about the interesting story behind this historical site, check out the Wikipedia page

Now that Vanastra is up and running with a 20-year Feed-in Tariff contract (FIT), it is open for public investment. Anyone can invest in a Solar Bond to finance Vanastra and other current SolarShare projects. Click here to invest today.
