We're more than pleased to announce a potential new amalgamation with a co-operative in Timiskaming, Ontario. Green Timiskaming is a non-profit renewable energy co-op that aims to develop sustainable energy projects in the region, and to offer their members the opportunity to invest in them. Green Timiskaming has received Feed-in-Tariff contract offers to build 9 new solar installations and has engaged with SolarShare to take on the development process, and then to be the long-term owner/operator of the systems. The projects will have a total cost of approximately $22 million. SolarShare President Mike Brigham toured the sites in November and is working with developer Endura Energy Development Inc. and Hydro One to ensure the feasibility of the projects. Once the project details are finalized and SolarShare's board and private investors have given formal approval, construction will begin, and SolarShare will welcome a host of new northern members to the co-op.
Ambrose Raftis, Chair of the Green Timiskaming Development Co-op, had this to say, "Joining with Solar Share will better ensure that the solar projects in Timiskaming get developed and that they are operated efficiently over the 20-year contract with the Ontario Government. In addition, the combining of the co-ops will ensure that the systems are 100% community owned and that the profits stay in the province. The amalgamation of these co-ops expands the definition of community from a community of local to a community of interest."
Stay tuned for more updates about this dynamic collaboration.
