Board Election and Committee Member Applications

Solar Share has a "rotating" board of directors, to assist with continuity, and 7 standing or ad hoc committees each of which includes one or more elected directors, and other volunteers (who may, but do not need to be Members). Three (3) directors are elected to the board of directors each year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). For the June 2021 AGM, two of the three directors whose terms are ending have decided to stand for re-election: Glen Campbell (Finance Committee) and Patrick Collie (past Chair). Khalid Grant, current board Chair, has elected not to run again but we are very pleased to retain his expertise on our New Business Committee.

Every SolarShare Member is eligible to stand for election to the board of directors. If you would like to nominate yourself for the upcoming election in June, please email [email protected] enclosing: (a) a summary, of up to 250 words, to be used in a publication describing the candidates which will be sent to all Members before the AGM) and (b) any other resume, curriculum vitae or equivalent which you would like the Board/Governance Committee to see.

Our ideal board candidates:

  • Are empathetic and effective communicators with strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Have experience with SolarShare (ideally through committee membership) and a passion for community ownership, impact investing, co-operatives and solar energy
  • Represent the diversity of Ontarians
  • Have some combination of the following experience:
    • Developing and implementing marketing and sales strategies
    • Financing for organizations (especially debt financing), accounting and strategic planning
    • Participation in the not-for-profit and/or co-operative sectors
    • Engagement with boards of directors and committees

If you are interested in getting more involved with SolarShare (even if you’re not a member!) we are also seeking applications for new committee members to join four of our seven committees, including Audit, Governance, Human Resources and Marketing.

Our ideal committee candidates:

  • Committee members are similar to board candidates (as described above) except that their expertise is be relevant to the appropriate committee:

    • Audit: professional designation such as a CPA and experience in financial auditing
    • Human Resources: professional human resources designation and experience with human resources in small organizations
    • Marketing: strategy, development, implementation of digital marketing efforts and stakeholder communication and management
    • Governance: director or corporate secretarial certification, or experience with board and/or Governance committee of not-for-profit and/or co-operative organizations.
