Community Engagement Coordinator

Salary: $40,000 - $45,000

Term: 1-Year contract from May 2019 to May 2020

SolarShare is Canada’s leading renewable energy co-op. We make it easy for investors to earn an impressive return while doing something good for the planet. We develop, own and operate commercial-scale solar energy installations and invite Ontario residents to invest in them. 

SolarShare owns 49 solar PV projects, and has over 1600 members who are passionate about solar power, have invested over $39 million, and have earned over $4 million in returns. We want everyone to have the opportunity to benefit from our projects while helping to end our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

SolarShare is seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to coordinate our community engagement activities, communications, and bond sales.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for organizing and executing events, managing volunteers, forming and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders, and recruiting new co-op members. This role will administer SolarShare’s social media platforms and our website, prepare the monthly e-newsletter, and assist with member management.

Candidates should be a team player who can also work independently, comfortable presenting to groups of people, able to speak and write clearly, and passionate about renewable energy and social finance.

This individual will work in the office in downtown Toronto, and occasional travel within Ontario throughout the week and on weekends may be necessary. There is flexibility to work remotely a few days a week depending on the activities of the organization. While this is a full-time role, individuals who can demonstrate that they are capable of achieving the objectives within part-time hours will be considered. A valid G license is required.

Membership & Sales: SolarShare regularly launches membership campaigns within various municipalities in Ontario. The coordinator will be responsible for connecting with existing and potential investors and members, facilitating renewed and new investment and membership, and supporting investment administration.

Communications: The coordinator will write and prepare content for social media, presentations, the SolarShare blog and e-newsletter, and the website, solarbonds.ca. This individual will deliver key messages to potential and existing members in various formats.

Events: This role will exhibit the co-op at various events and manage all logistical aspects of these activities, including planning, promotion, relationship building, preparing collateral, coordinating volunteer schedules and providing training. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also oversee the planning and execution of SolarShare’s Annual General Meeting, taking place in June.

Administration: The coordinator will assist the General Manager with various tasks, including but not limited to, communicating information to member investors, drafting reports, conducting analyses, preparing materials for board and committee meetings, and taking minutes.

Required

  • Post-secondary education with 2+ years of experience in a communications, ambassador, outreach, or marketing role
  • Strong sales and/or customer service background
  • Experience with grassroots marketing and event coordination
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including copywriting and editing
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, independent
  • Proficient with: MailChimp (or other email software), Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), website content management systems
  • Keen ability to manage time and priorities
  • Willingness to work with a flexible schedule that sometimes involves early mornings, late evenings, and weekends
  • Passionate about the environment and renewable energy
  • Valid G License

Assets

  • Knowledge of the renewable energy industry
  • Knowledge of finance or social finance
  • Skilled in photography, graphic design, graphic editing
