First Project in Toronto is Live!

Oct 16, 2013

Local SolarShare members are proud and delighted to find a project to invest in closer to home. Our very first project in Toronto is now pumping clean green solar power into the grid and is open for Solar Bond investment. "Goodmark" is located in an industrial area of Rexdale on a building that hosts a variety of commercial operations including a bakery, cabinet-makers, and coconut importers. We recently paid a visit to the site with some of our keenest supporters, including local members, Bullfrog Power (a key bridge investor) and CAPE.  The group suited up in safety gear and climbed up to the roof to see the final stages of construction. We were thrilled by the sight of 18,000 square feet of brand new modules.

"It's not everyday that you get to see your investment dollars in action, but today I feel truly inspired to see what a little investment from a lot of people can do," said member Kristen Corbet.  Everyone felt they learned a lot from the tour led by Resco Energy Project Manager, Jeff Shaw. He showed us the system components and explained each stage of development, from the blueprints to commercial operation. Members were impressed by how quickly a project on such a large scale was completed (about 6 weeks). Each member had a different reason to feel proud of their contribution to the project.

SolarShare is committed to providing opportunities for members to engage with the projects and learn more about energy production and conservation. All production data is available to the public and you can monitor Goodmark in real time here.

President Mike Brigham announced, "SolarShare and partners have worked very hard to get this project off the ground, and we're excited to see how well it's going to perform. The last system we built, Ontario Street, is performing well above expectation." Stay tuned to find out!

Goodmark is the first co-op owned solar project in Toronto. Read more about the project on our website or click here to invest in Goodmark and other completed projects in the SolarShare portfolio.
