Ontario Power Authority to Offer 500 Renewable Energy Contracts

Aug 06, 2014

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) just announced they're ready to offer 500 renewable energy contracts that could result in enough renewable energy to power approximately 15,000 homes. The total list includes 490 solar projects, eight bio-energy projects, one wind energy project and one waterpower project. Of these, there are 81 projects like SolarShare with community participation (21.5 MW), 257 projects (60 MW) are with Aboriginal participation, and 161 projects (42 MW) with municipal or public sector entity participation.

SolarShare has succeeded in getting two of four contract offers on the list, the Stronach Sports Complex in Aurora and one ground mount project in Kingston, with the help of Wintergreen Renewable Energy Co-op. Wintergreen is based in the Kingston area and is working with SolarShare to increase co-op membership and investment in the region.

The complete list of FIT 3 contract offers is available here. A summary of projects with Aboriginal, municipal and public sector and community participation is available here.
