After The Earthquake: How Solar Is Contributing To Relief In Nepal

May 15, 2015

Responding To The Nepal Earthquake

On April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. Shortly after, on May 12, another earthquake hit the country at a 7.3 magnitude. The efforts of SunFarmer, a nonprofit solar energy company in Nepal, provide a positive story amidst this tragedy.

For almost 2 years, SunFarmer has been building solar energy projects in Nepal for health, education and water projects.
Following Nepal’s devastating earthquake, SunFarmer’s engineering team has been partnering with local organizations in areas where almost all of the local homes have been destroyed due to the earthquake. SunFarmer is providing free solar lanterns and charging stations to provide light and electricity to allow relief and recovery efforts to continue. You can find more about these relief efforts at sunfarmer.org/earthquake-relief.

SunFarmer is accepting donations, which will be doubled (up to 20,000) by their corporate partners. Also, till May 25, 2015, the Canadian government will triple Canadian donations.
